Ghana has not reached the stage where she can stay adamant and watch the already acquired property and development to keep deteriorating after borrowing money from the developed countries. Ghanaians should also bear in mind that our own generated internal revenue is inadequate to provide all our needs. It is in this light that I have severally written to draw the attention of the government and stakeholders to the continually dilapidating state of the Bibiani Awaso asphalted road. We should learn to embark on simple maintenance. The road which was constructed during NDC’s time not long ago has already began to deteriorate. The gutters were not constructed and, as a result, trenches have developed making the road narrow. Added to this are the big truck vehicles such as the ones which have been carrying bauxite and timber, which constantly use the road. We don’t have to sit unconcerned and watch the road to deteriorate beyond repairs before we start blaming the government. We are therefore appealing to the Ministry of Roads to award the contract for the construction of the gutters before it turns into a third class road. Ghana already has pressing financial issues to attend to and therefore should not wait until more problems arise before we start looking for loans elsewhere. Ben Ali Seaman, |
