GRITTY Viviene Avornyo put up a sparkling performance to claim the Ladies top prize at the Annual Barclays Invitational Golf at Achimota last weekend.

Viviene whistled home an impressive 40 stable ford points with Brookman-Amissah, 39 points, Joy Akutu and Ivorian Viviene Kouame 34 points each, and Nana Bema-Takie in 5th place in that order.

Nine-year-old golf prodigy, Daniel List, lost a rare chance of getting his name inscribed in the record books by the whisker; Mathias Dorfe who also shot a magnificent 40 stable ford points as the winner of the men’s scratch event had to surrender his prize on technical grounds.

Following Dorfe’s technical disqualification for being an employee of Barclays, Charles Ofori who posted 39 stable ford points, took home the winning trophy with Daniel List taking the runner-up prise ahead of K. Masato, Albert Brock and Emmanuel Quarcoo, all with 26 points apiece.

John Wawuli with a five under par score of 139 gross won the professional event, beating Stephen Klah 142 gross, John Dormon and Victor Brave-Mensah 145 gross apiece and Vincent Torgah 146 gross, all over 36 holes.

The Board Chairman of Barclays Bank, Dr Charles Mensah, commended Achimota Golf Club for giving them the opportunity to sponsor the flagship event which has been on going since 1969.

He described the turn out and décor as fantastics saying Barclays would not relent in sponsoring the event meant to bring customers of the now 146 branches together. He also praised the Managing Director, Mrs Mwanakatwe, Management and CMC Members of the Bank for upholding the good corporate image of the Bank.

He also paid special tribute to Dr Kobina Quansah, a past Managing Director of the Bank and Mr Mike Ezan, a founding member of the BBG-Achimota deal who is also the current president of Achimota Golf Club.

He also acknowledged the presence of Hon. Felix Owusu Adjapong, in-coming Energy Minister and Mr Nick Amarteifio.

The Board Chairman made a handsome donation of Gh¢3,700.00 to the club for its transformation work on holes 8, 9, 10, from brown to greens.
